Earthquake likely in Delhi and surrounding areas.Scientists estimate that an earthquake of up to 8.5 on the Richter scale could cause major damage.The Union Territory, including Delhi, is one of the four seismic zones.Until June 3, the earthquake had struck 11 times in the region and surrounding border states.These are all recorded on the Richter scale below 5.For the past 100 years, the earthquake has been strong in the central region near the Himalayan Valley, which includes Delhi.Scientists say that besides Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Garhwal will also be hit.Similar studies have been made in the Geological Survey of Dhanbad, Jharkhand.Earthquake head PK Khan says small earthquakes can cause major earthquakes.
Delhi is one of the most densely populated cities in the country.95% of the construction is without meeting the approved standards.Experts say this could only add to the disaster. An earthquake measuring 3.3 on the Richter Scale shook Delhi's epicenter last Wednesday.
